Prop firms for US traders: what is usually available and what needs extra caution
United States traders often have more reliable access to futures evaluations than offshore forex/CFD challenges. That does not make every futures firm safe, but it does make exchange-traded futures a clearer category to research.
Best-fit categories for US traders
- Futures evaluations: Commonly available to US traders and connected to platforms like Tradovate, NinjaTrader, Quantower, Rithmic or Project X.
- Forex/CFD challenges: Availability varies sharply. Some firms accept US traders, some restrict them, and payout providers may add state-by-state limitations.
- Stocks/options desks: Usually require US work authorization, professional onboarding, licensing or capital contribution.
US due diligence
The CFTC advises traders to verify registrations and be cautious with forex offers, high leverage, unsolicited social-media pitches, crypto-only payment demands and unrealistic return claims. Use NFA BASIC and firm legal disclosures before sending money.
